After winning back-to-back TAPPS 6A state championships, the Prestonwood Christian Academy Plano volleyball team has once again established itself as one of the top programs in the nation early in the 2024 season.
The Lady Lions began the week ranked No. 1 in the country by MaxPreps and further cemented their status with a dominant showing at the highly regarded Volleypalooza tournament in Leander.
PCA Plano posted a perfect 8-0 record at the event, emerging as the only undefeated team among the 68 schools in attendance. Impressively, seven of their victories came in straight sets. Their tournament run included wins over two nationally ranked opponents—No. 10 Dripping Springs (25-17, 25-20) in the finals and No. 12 Cypress Ranch (25-22, 25-10).
Additional victories came against Bridgeland (25-20, 25-17), Fort Bend Elkins (25-9, 25-16), Austin Vandegrift (25-13, 25-22), Georgetown (25-18, 25-11), San Antonio Brandeis (25-13, 25-14), Keller (26-24, 25-20), and Fulshear (21-25, 25-15, 25-19), pushing their season record to 16-1.
Senior standout Macaria Spears earned tournament MVP honors. Fellow senior Gillian Pitts was named Best Defender, while sophomore Anya Baklenko and senior Taylor Cook were also recognized with all-tournament selections.
PCA Plano will take the court again at 6 p.m. Thursday, hosting Hockaday in their next matchup.
