Prestonwood Christian Academy came out firing Friday night and never looked back, earning a 36-18 victory over Trinity Christian Academy on October 9 at Tom Landry Stadium.
PCA jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the opening quarter and continued the game with a balanced offensive attack, finishing the night with 451 total yards, 246 rushing yards, 205 passing yards, and 22 first downs.
The Lions wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Max Reyes connected with Luke Lineberger for a 61-yard touchdown early in the first quarter, giving PCA a quick 7-0 advantage. The explosive play was the first of several big moments for the Lions’ offense throughout the night.
Braden Bixler added to the lead later in the quarter, punching in a 7-yard touchdown run before hauling in the ensuing 2-point conversion from Reyes to make it 15-0.
PCA continued its offensive momentum into the second quarter. Reyes capped a six-play, 66-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 22-0 with 9:29 remaining in the half.
TCA answered with a pair of scores before halftime, cutting the PCA lead 22-10 heading into the break. The Lions, however, remained in control, holding TCA to just 53 rushing yards for the game while limiting the Trojans to 238 total yards.
Reyes scored his second touchdown of the night on a 7-yard run with 10:31 remaining, extending the lead 29-10. TCA responded with a touchdown to make it 29-18, but PCA quickly put the game away.
The Lions answered with a 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive that took nearly seven minutes off of the clock. Bixler finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:38 remaining, sealing the 36-18 victory.
Bixler led the ground game with 127 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, while Reyes added 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Isaiah Jabek contributed 35 yards on seven carries as PCA piled up 246 rushing yards on 49 attempts.
Through the air, Reyes completed 12 out of 19 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown. Lineberger was his top target, hauling in six passes for 115 yards and a touchdown, including the 61-yard scoring strike that got PCA rolling early. Vance Hernandez added 36 yards on one reception, while Cutter Likens, Bixler, and Eli Moore also contributed in the passing game.
The Lions’ defense also delivered several key plays throughout the night. Evren Roach led the way with six total tackles and two tackles for loss, while Trevor Vitali recorded four tackles, two tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries. Micah Windingland added four tackles and a tackle for loss, and Connor Kidwell finished with four tackles.
PCA also made plays in the secondary, with Jacob Chong recording a pass breakup and Drew Dzina coming away with an interception.
With the victory, PCA put together a strong all-around performance, combining explosive plays, a physical rushing attack and defense that consistently made it difficult for TCA to sustain drives.
