The road to a State Championship continues for Prestonwood Christian Academy volleyball.
With its season on the line, PCA delivered a statement performance in the regional playoffs Thursday night, sweeping Bishop Lynch, 25-17, 25-16, 25-16, to punch its ticket to the TAPPS State Semifinals.
From the opening serve, the Lady Lions played with the energy and confidence of a team determined to keep its post season run alive. PCA quickly established control at the net, put pressure on Bishop Lynch with its serving game, and never allowed the Friars to find a rhythm for long.
The Lady Lions’ offense was clicking throughout the night, producing 45 kills on 81 attacks while hitting an impressive .469 as a team.
Taylor Johnson led the charge with a match-high 15 kills on 24 attacks, hitting .500 while adding 12 digs and two service aces. Nyla Livings was right behind her with 14 kills on 22 attacks, finishing with a .591 hitting percentage and helping PCA consistently find success at the net.
Naomi Living added eight kills, while Gracie White contributed three kills while hitting .500. Hayden Thomas added two total blocks, including a solo block, as the Lady Lions finished with four blocks as a team.
PCA also kept Bishop Lynch under pressure from behind the service line, recording nine aces throughtout the sweep. Evann Beville led the Lady Lions with three aces, while Johnson and Naomi Livings each added two. Anya Baklenko and Hallie Palmer also contributed an ace apiece.
While the offense contributed to put points on the board, PCA’s defense made sure Bishop Lynch had few opportunities to build momentum. The Lady Lions recorded 41 digs with zero digging errors, led by Johnson’s 12. Baklenko added either digs, while Livings contributed seven.
The Lady Lions’ ball control and setting helped keep the offense in rhythm throughout the match. Beville finished with 19 assists, while Elizabeth Kowalchyk added 18 as PCA totaled 42 assists.
PCA took the opening set 25-17, setting the tone for the rest of the night. The Lady Lions then continued to apply pressure in the second set, pulling away for a 25-16 victory and moving within one set of the semifinals.
The Lady Lions maintained their composure and continued to attack aggressively in the third set, once again finishing 25-16 to complete the sweep. Three sets, three victories and a trip to the TAPPS State Semifinals.
Now, the Lady Lions’ postseason journey continues.
After putting together a dominant regional performance, PCA moves one step closer to the ultimate prize, carrying the confidence of a convincing sweep into the TAPPS State Semifinals. With the biggest moments of the season still ahead, the Lady Lions have earned another opportunity to keep their championship pursuit alive.
